Thanksgiving

(I ran out of fingers and toes counting my blessings)

First off, in case anyone was wondering what I've been up to, Saturday was a very busy day IRL and I only managed a few hours on, duoing DRG with Phax's DNC. Sunday was a total IRL disaster, and it kinda carried on into today.

So, since we're leaving tomorrow I may not be back online again until Sunday on our return from Tennessee. I intend to pack TheFunMachine but our family reunions are always packed, chaotic affairs. I really have no idea what kind of playtime I'll be able to get.

As for the thanksgiving part, I really do have a lot to be thankful for, in-game and IRL. I have a great wife and family, I have a job, I finally got my sports car this year, we've already been on a number of fun trips and this one should be a blast (and it may snow ^^), and on it goes.

In-game I have wonderful friends in two shells (and some random ones too) and have spent many wonderful days helping and being helped. Lots of great and often hilarious chats, a number of bone-headed mistakes we lol-ed over, close calls, and total wipes... I'm coming up on two years of play and I really want to stick around.

I'm afraid if I start listing all my friends I'll leave someone out and they might feel slighted, so I hope my friends know you're my friends and that I'm thankful and privileged to have you. I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Weary Warrior

(Need more online time!)

Wednesday: OK party on WAR, but as I was asked *not* to tank, it went well. Forgot my mantle and almost bought Nomad's +1. May still do that... In any case, got WAR29 and since we had a PL, everyone was beating on the mandies in Yhoator.

Also had a long, interesting chat with Phax. It's always enlightening to discuss major issues and see what comes out when two people are honest about their opinions.

Thursday: Phax tried to organize a run on In His Belly (prereq) and Pirate's Chart quests. He's after the pricey drops from the Chart fight but since getting the flag item from the first is low, and the drop rate is low, this could be a long shot. Plus, it seems the flagger MUST be 30+ in fishing. Argh...

Also thought GD was going to go farm a Testimony and I was going to go to help and skill up, but nothing ever started.

Puma (on GD) asked if I'd seen Fhox. Once in the past 10 days or so...

Weekend plans include getting SCH and WAR to 30 and another 10 points on Club.

Also will be seeing Bolt with the fam and preparing for Thanksgiving trip.

Not Feeling Well

I wish I could get on tonight and continue the fun begun yesterday, but I started feeling ill this afternoon. I'm going to bed soon but hope to be back on tomorrow.

We didn't even go dancing tonight :(

Anniversary XIV

(Ahhh... This is the life!)

We just checked in to the Royal Pacific Resort. We've stayed here many times and it's my second favorite hotel, after Animal Kingdom Resort.

This is the fourth anniversary in a row we've done this and the staff were very kind to us the first three times. They brought fruit/cheese trays and a bottle of wine. We even got upgraded one year to a suite.

Well, this year, they topped themselves. When I finally made it in to the lobby with all the stuff, Ape met me. She told me we were upgraded...to Club Level. It's a mild room upgrade but a major service upgrade! Free food, hors d'oveures (did I get it?) and adult beverages.

Very nice! We're planning on a very nice and relaxing weekend of rollercoasters, James Bond, poolside meals and Margaritaville. And maybe some other stuff ^^

See you soon!

A Pirate's Life For Me

(Still need: Shoulder parrot, bottled rum, dead man's chest)

Arrrgh, me hearties *cough cough* Sorry, something in my throat ^^

The last four days has been solo-time on Corsair. Tuesday 1-5, Wednesday > 8, Thursday > 10 and last night to 12. Soloing /BST has been working for me but this time I brought Sufhi along. And once I hit 5 and got Corsair's Roll, the XP rolled in - more than 3k an hour solo.

Also, I got to chat a bit with Fhox, Isa, Archer, Yalto, Aleu, Stoik and my other shellmates. But mostly briefly because I was on at odd times and found quiet shells a few times. Phax was on a lot, taking his BST from 16 to 23. We chatted quite a bit. I won't tell tales out of school, but I hope things look up for him soon. And I told him I didn't mind our chats because usually at least once a night he says something that either makes me literally lol or go O.o (in a good way).

I mentioned the "Adventurer" video too - it *is* one of the things that motivates me to help. I don't ever want to forget that sense of wonder...

Last night was probably the busiest, with Stoik trying desperately to get a 6-1 party together to take on the Sabotender in Altepa. He wasn't having much luck and I told him I couldn't stay up much longer because of my migraine. Much love and sweets to Isa for minding the clock - I don't mind pushing my luck on weekends but her advice is much needed on worknights!

At about 1am Stoik threw in the towel and I soon left. Fortunately at 12 I can wear my linen things and not party in the Dunes in my wash-day rags.

Also last night: Fam night prior to Ape and I taking off for Orlando without the kids. Played Perfect Dark (spiritual successor to GoldenEye N64) and watched Kung Fu Panda.

And had a lot of blind-tell action: Clipse wanted me badly for a 6-2 party (which I actually need but haven't flagged all the way yet) and someone hit on me. Offered tickles for luck on the Sabo fight. My "toon doesn't always match player" line cooled his jets, although he ended the chat with some good advice for the fight. Someone else seemed bored too and got a tele request.

Final note: Phax, if you're here: I don't know how much time I can commit to your new shell although I appreciate the offer. I'm a leader in RDB and recruit for them when I can. Don't worry - there's still plenty more fun chats and hopefully adventures ahead.

And Fhox, I now have another lowish job for LS parties: COR12. We need to do that soon if we can - I have missed you all on my crazy schedule!

Needed Thanks

Um, I thought I did this already but a search just now says I didn't.

Omari, many thanks for the help on the gear gadget! I like having it up there ^^

Going Clubbing

(/smile Fhox)

I logged on last night and almost immediately Fhox offered to help me and Raki with weapon skills. He was in Quicksand Caves looking for the Coffer. Raki couldn't leave just then so I went there and as Fhox searched spawn points we beat up some Anticans. I got +4 by the time he found the coffer and got his map.

Then we teleported to Vahzl to meet up with Raki's group which included Rum, Nutbutter and Zebrina. Fhox and I took several wrong turns but found them and I got +6 more club points, to end at 160. I forgot to reequip my shield so I probably missed out on shield skillups.

The party dissolved when Zeb had to run to Limbus and someone else had another appointment. I warped home and as I was checking my raw skills (without gear boosts) Phax came on. He wanted some PL help in Buburimu and since I hadn't seen him in awhile I agreed. We didn't get to talk much because I wasn't out there for more than 20 minutes but it seems his love life is on the wane again. /comfort

He was trying to recover a level lost soloing but he was still nearly 2k away when I left.

Many thanks to Fhox for the club help, but I misread - I need to hit 220, so I'm *only* 60 away ^^

Real Life, Continued

(When did I get so busy?)
A quick recap:

Thursday - missed work because of a neigbor's dog's incessant barking. THey were apologetic when I told them about it and are looking to place the dog anyway... Spent the morning with Mom and then with a little afternoon left logged on. Got a party on PLD thanks to Kazette. Put my hate-holding skills to the test when both DRG's kept using abilities. Did pretty well for the most part and even dropped a few decent SC's with Kaz. Got a chance to thank Weezy for his advice because he repped someone just before my rep arrived.

Friday - no play. Was still feeling lousy but managed to do dinner & a movie with SIL, BIL and R&C. Cracker Barrel was actually good for once (to me, anyway) and Role Models was pants-wettingly funny.

Saturday - Up early and walked into COR unlock prep between Archer and Yalto. I joined in and now have another new job. Yalto got PUP on the way but missed part of COR's flag-up and will need to return. For some reason, even though we only had WHM69, PLD68 and RDM58, we did quite well with only a death each for me and Yalto. We did have to do a lot of MGS'ing but overall we made good progress.

Saturday afternoon - visited one of Ape's friends from way back who, after several tries and a lot of sorrow produced a beautiful baby boy. Did I tell you I'm extremely weak vs. babies? Want to occupy me for a long time? Hand me a baby, especially a sleepy one I can rest on my arm or shoulder and doze with.

Saturday late night - Got a SCH party at long last just as I was going to give up. And I had some new threads to wear to the party because I plunked down the cash for the Baron's set. Well, body, hands and legs. The feet were not on the AH and I forgot to check the hat.
THe party in the jungle was hosted by Growl and things went well. In fact, I was a little surprised they needed me on SCH and insisted I find a healer to rep me when I left later. BLM/WHM, DNC, and BLU, plus me on SCH. Crazy healing power. Topping that, Growl handled my rep for me telling me I didn't need to worry about it. It took a bit for the rep (well, second rep, one bailed) to arrive but it worked nicely.

Sunday - Shopping, car repair and Madagascar 2. Plus groceries and dinner at Mom's for Amazing Race. The Divorcees are gone - FINALLY! I hope they watch their parts later and realize just how awful they were to other teams.
Watching with my Dad was interesting because tonight's leg was in India, a country my dad lived in for like 10 years. The "throw powder and paint on people" celebration? He did that. With water balloons. That's how he rolls.

I still need to get club up. But I also want to ding 30 on SCH and WAR soon to make it 7 jobs at or over 30.

I miss you guys! I feel bad not getting to play much lately. Things have just been getting nuts at home with work and school all around. Plus as Thanksgiving and Christmas approach my time will prolly get squeezed more. I'll do my best, though.

Change Is Coming!

(Hopeful Optimism ^^)

A short time before the elections as I agonized over my choice for President (yes, I knew who I was leaning towards but both had strong pros and some scary cons) I said a prayer. It basically asked God to guide the electorate in choosing the candidate who would be best overall for America. Last night, Barack Obama won and John McCain gave a very touching concession speech,

Before going to bed, I worked on a new prayer:

* Let this man who would lead us do so according to the guidelines he campaigned on, and in so doing, elevate all Americans.

* Let him wisely guide our interests at home and overseas and in so doing, keep us safe and remove the excuses others have used as justification for attacking Us.

* Let him work towards an America where equality means equal opportunity for all and not complete welfare anarchy, and in so doing, give all Americans the incentive, and the tools to contribute something meaningful to the fabric of America.

* Let him be guided by his Faith and his Mind, combining History and Future, and in so doing, create a nation where "I am what I am because of who we all are" is a challenge for all, not a call to indifference.

* Let us work as One Nation Under God to become the Americans we are being asked to become, and in so doing, usher in an era of fairness, freedom and humanity.

I may need to tweak it some.

Something else I thought about as I went to sleep, somewhat anxiously. Both candidates promised change, and I still believe the change McCain would bring would not be enough to "un-Bush" America. I do believe he meant well but I just can't shake the feeling that we'd be in for more trickle-down policy. Obama on the other hand, could represent changes on a grand scale that may or may not turn out how I'd like. Ape and I are already debating what's going to happen as a result of his win: Social program scope, civil rights changes, racial issues (brought up so eloquently by McCain in concession) and more. "Be careful what you wish for - you might just get it." Yeah, I may be eating my words in a year or so. I don't believe so - Obama seems too smart to be too stupid.

But certainly there ARE big changes coming. If I hear any more callers to morning shows going on about socialism or wealth redistribution, I might have to turn off the radio. Ape and I are also arguing over this point. I voted Obama EXPECTING higher taxes. In theory I have no problem doing my part to pay for a government that will protect me and offer me education and healthcare, and that has the elimination of poverty as a goal. I worked in the public sector for three years and saw enough poverty there to know ending it is one of the most important things we can do as a nation.

Obviously, I don't want my money going to ANYONE who isn't deserving in some way. I will not tolerate freeloaders or those who expect to live high on the hog on my dime. I don't know all the details of Obama's proposal, but hopefully regardless of its design, its execution prevents able-bodied poor-planning check-cashers from benefiting. Someone who is disabled or otherwise prevented from working? Sure. Someone who works a crappy job to make ends meet and needs free health care? Sure. Someone who is trying to balance a family and schooling and work needs some help with food? Sure. I believe if we can give everyone a reason to get up in the morning, and the tools to do something useful once they're up, they'll be a lot less likely to do stupid crap. No, I don't believe education will stop gangs, drugs, and laziness. But I do believe it will reduce these ills in the most effective way possible and will also hopefully produce citizens who have a concept of responsibility.

In the same vein, I think a healthier populace is more productive, either through less missed work/school or in being less of a drain on others who are trying to work or learn.

One of the big points Ape and I chewed over yesterday was the ideal of moral leadership. She feels that the trend in our society of unrestrained sexuality and violence in our media and our citizenry, especially shown on TV between end of school and dinnertime, is affecting the values of our society. Guess what? I AGREE with her. I think there need to be safe zones where families can be reasonably comfortable that their kids won't be exposed to things the parents don't want. However, Ape and I disagree on how we'd deal with this. I support broadcast limits for non-cable stations during afternoon hours - why the heck is Family Guy coming on at 5:30? I'm not saying it should be all After School Specials and cheesy cartoons. But surely there are shows we can broadcast OTA that are less troublesome than FG.

What I don't support is having government telling adults, especially consenting ones, what they can and can't watch, hear, or do. I believe Americans should be able to do pretty much whatever they want so long as they don't affect or interfere with anyone else. I have a beef with banning stuff or censorship. I don't have a prob with restrictions on sales - I don't want minors buying some of the stuff I listen to. But as an American adult, I should be the only person deciding what fits my personal values.

I do think the general breakdown of "family values" has contributed to a lot of what's wrong in this country, but listen up - freedom of choice DOES NOT mean freedom from responsibility!

OK, now I'm rambling and I know I'll be seeing a lot of teal deer (TL;DR) on this post. But I want this in print so I can remember what I was thinking on Election Day. I wonder who Norman Muller voted for...

Real Life is Inconvenient

I'm sorry everyone! I really haven't had a lot of time to spend in Vana'diel, but I have done a couple of interesting things...

Friday late night: Decent party on PLD into the wee hours - got really sleepy but a double-gob pull in the jungle near the end woke me right up ^^

Saturday: Went to Orlando to play at DisneyQuest. DisneyQuest is Disney's answer to places like Dave & Buster's arcade/midway/food combo attractions. Remind me to beat someone senseless over this: Adult passes are upwards of 40 bucks and despite the ENTIRE PREMISE of this place being electronic entertainment, they can't be arsed to keep Tron working. Either of them. Not this weekend, not last year when I went SPECIFICALLY to play Tron. (Tron is why I got into computers in the first place)

Had a nice dinner at Landry's with SIL's family. Waiter copped a 'tude when we wanted something corrected on our bill.

Sunday: Fantastic breakfast at Perkins with the same crew. Went to Universal where both my mom and I got picked to be in "Disaster!" - Mom as the gardening Granny and me as one of three evil business-types. Home in time for AR, Housewives and B & S.

Monday: Logged in only to sell 3 stacks of ninja socks and agreed to help Enz and Arch get his AF sword.

Tuesday: Off work early-ish to go vote. I love our precinct - there's never a line! Ate at Chik-fil-A and had to get some stuff at Target. My not get back on after Y night.

Other distractions: Firefly owns, spent more time practicing IRL precision driving, and now I have a new DS title: My Japanese Coach. It is very impressive for a 30-buck DS "game". It seems to have ALL of the Jouyou kanji plus the 4,000 lesser-used but standard ones. Good pronunciation and I like the writing drills.

Fhox asked me if I was taking a break - I said No because I wasn't planning on one but I've been thinking. I think I need to ask for assistance. Lately, when logging on, I either party or help others. I need to focus on my goals now. Club skill most of all.

So I'm making this official. Anyone who wants to help me get from about 160 to 220 let me know. I know it won't be quick but I'd appreciate it!
